Call of Duty 4 Race and Ethnicity

I have chose to play a game called Call of Duty 4 this whole semester and analyze it. This first topic had me look into the "Race and Ethnicity" of it. I didn't only analyze the campaign play, but I also looked into the Online play of it. While doing this I found a few things that caught my eye with race and ethnicity.
One thing that caught my eye in the campaign play is that there are not any women in it. This tells me that whomever made this game believes that women do not belong in war. I went on to the online play of this game and also realized that there aren't any women in it, the only character one can be is a white American, black American, or a Taliban. I also did a little survey with people I met playing online, 70% were white males, 20% were Hispanic, 19% were black males, and the rest were others.

The Culture of Power Article

The Culture of Power is an article written to explain how people should should try to fit in with others, and how everyone should be treated equally. This article showed me a lot of examples how one can easily fir in, and at the same time how one can be easily left out. Paul Kivel, the author of this article, makes his point across by giving examples that we can all easily relate to. A good example that he gave was about when we were all children.
When we were children we were dominated by adults. We had to "ACT" like grown ups in order to fit in. We had to do everything the way a grown up did, and if not we will be punished. I remember doing things and not really getting credit for it. I remember trying my hardest to suck up, so that I will stick out more then the others in my group. I always had to compete with other kids my own age, so that we can be "COOL" with the adults.
I did a personal study on myself and realized, that I, like most others are very much like what the adults are to the children. For example, I consider myself to be "In" with the "American Citizen" group. I did research and realized that I have so much benefits compared to those of third world countries. I can eat red meat, unlike those of Cuba. I have an opportunity to be whatever I want as long as I put effort into it. I am so much more grateful to be an American Citizen now that I have looked more into it. I also have put more thought in recognizing those that are not in my same group, like the immigrants that work in the Immokalee fields, that pick tomatoes in the hot sun for loose change. I will try my hardest to treat everyone equal and to allow anyone to be welcomed in any of my groups.

Existenze

Growing up I have watched a lot of movies, but I'd have to say, none of them have been as weird as Existenze. It was not a movie that I would have rented or paid to watch, but after watching it I felt that it sent me a pretty good message. I believe this movie was made because it is trying to send us a message of how this world or should I say this nation, is getting overran by video games. While watching this movie, there was one thing that I saw that reminded me of something I do while playing video games.
This movie is about people connecting their bodies to a virtual reality game, that leaves their real life bodies completely vulnerable. This can easily be compared to my gaming experience. There are times that I am so into a game that someone can be talking to me right in front of my face and I will not respond. I will be so into a game, that an emergency can happen, and I will not react until it has been happening for a while. This is something that I have to stop doing, before it gets too late. I get too addicted to games and it can only get worse.
